Chris & Jessica: June 28, 2008

Chris & Jessica! You may remember them from their engagement session just a month ago! The two of them were originally to be married on another date, but they moved up their wedding and I was lucky enough to be available.

They are a wonderful couple and this wedding was all about them and their new life together. SO many people told me about all the work they put into this day and I believe it. The best part is that they were always smiling and completely relaxed about everything. The bridesmaids went barefoot, the ring bearer and flower girl decided to switch jobs, ducks interrupted the ceremony and it was all perfect. During the reception, I turned to the fab Bonnie Berry, who was shooting with me and said “I like this wedding”.

They were married out at Krystal Falls, which was a treat for me as I love shooting at a new venue.

Thanks again you two. I hope your week at work goes super fast and enjoy Cancun!!!!

Friends of the blog know about my love for some good lens flare.

Chris & Jessica graciously provided little misting bottles for their guests as it’s June in Texas – it’s hot. Their guest awesomely turned these little bottles into water guns. FUN! Wars were going on all night. I even took a good shot in the eye. No one was safe.

One last night portrait.

Erica & Josh: Engaged

When I met Erica & Josh I really, really liked them and hoped they would choose me as their photographer (sometimes being a wedding photographer is a lot like dating in that respect). I was so excited when they did and I have been looking forward to their engagement session. We had a monster session on Sunday and I don’t think there are many places in Austin that we didn’t hit. I had my crazy idea hat on and they were game for everything I came up with and I can’t ask for any more than that. Thanks so much you guys! I had a wonderful time getting to know you better. Enjoy!

These two met at Josh’s housewarming party a few years ago (the story is really cute) so they thought some pictures at Josh’s house would be a great way to start off (and they were right).

Then we hit the town.

Thank you awesome wall graffiti.

Milkshakes.

My hunch that were are a good match personality wise was confirmed when I very casually suggested that we go get some ice cream and they jumped on it before I was even finished with my sentence. As an aside – if you haven’t been to Big Top on South Congress, then after you finish this post, you should go. It’ll make you feel five years old again.

Sprinklers!

Catherine & Kyle: June 21, 2008

Catherine & Kyle are the sweetest and they are crazy in love.  This is a great wedding to kick off the new blog! (By the way…you like?)

I had a fun time as usual shooting with Tyler Schmitt this past Saturday in Historic Downtown Round Rock. The ceremony was held at The Texas Baptist Children’s Home (see adorable chapel below) and the reception was at Bella Notte on Main. I was skeptical, but downtown Round Rock is cute! Really Cute.

Catherine got a note from Kyle!

Choose your bridesmaids carefully, girls. You want awesome ones like Catherine had that will make you laugh and watch silly YouTube videos with you.

Sassy

Schmitt getting in a little hydration before the ceremony.

I love this image. Catherine was locked away in the bride’s room before the ceremony, but people kept opening the door and coming in to see her. Catherine’s view, and I have to say I share it, is that people shouldn’t be coming in and visiting with the bride before the ceremony because it’s, in her words, ‘cheating’. Yeah! Let a girl have a big entrance. So anyway, this is her hidding.

The Big Entrance

 Victory!

Thanks for having me you two! Enjoy your new life together.

Update on your clumsy photographer

I am alive and well!

Savannah has been saying “poor clumsy Mama bonked her head and then her face was all red” for the last week. I think that about sums it up.

I ran off to my parent’s house and let them take care of me for a few days and then went on a long weekend with the husband. I am as good as new. However, I don’t think I have any new superpowers or anything, which is a little disappointing frankly.

I have a busy weekend ahead, so look for updates with pretty people early next week. In the meantime, Savannah started ballet class and it is about the cutest thing I’ve ever seen.

And here is the class. Pardon the cruddy picture quality. I had the P&S with me. Note them all nicely standing in a line. What’s my kid doing? Standing the other way, because she’s just that way. Totally her own girl. I think the poor teacher told her to get back on her piece of tape 400 times in 45 minutes.

Really? I mean…really? Did that just happen?

So my husband is out of town. I thought I’d be hip mom and take Savannah to Central Market for dinner and some playground time. Dinner was great – we got gelato afterwards and then settled in for some playground time.

I was chasing after her on the playground. We were playing this game where I’d sneak up on her and scare her – she loves it. However, I misjudged a height and cracked the heck out of my head on a metal support. There was blood, there were paramedics, there was a nauseous Shannon. It was all very horrible and totally scary as I had no support at home.

THANK YOU to the lovely strangers at Central Market that took care of me and my daughter. THANK YOU to my wonderful neighbors who checked on me all night. Seriously, Texans are the best – THE BEST!!!

I am in general OK – I have a massive headache. I, of course, took pictures of my bloody head and will get around to posting them soon, but I wanted to let you know that in addition to a concussed head, I will be taking a little R&R week around here. It was actually planned in advance, but I’ll be a bit slow on email and phone calls.

As always, please call if there are any photography related emergencies. You know I’m happy to chat with any of you!

~Shannon

Savannah eating Dinner

By the way, these were all taken with my new Point and Shoot camera, the Canon SD-870. I’m still playing around with it and figuring somethings out, but so far, so good. I can definitely recommend it. Put a question in the comments or email me if you want more info.
