Holiday Card Follies

So I ended up going with the birthday party picture for my personal holiday cards.

However, when I was up in Dallas a month ago, I spotted this field that was AMAZING at sunset and thought it would be just perfect for a lovely family portrait. The three of us trotted out there and I set up the tripod and self timer.

I’m sure the teacher’s kid acts up in school, and the athlete’s kid doesn’t want to play sports, but COME ON KID! I am a photographer and want to take nice pictures of you! At least you can all laugh at me.

Have a Happy and Safe New Year!

I don’t know where her shoes went.

Look at Conor dutifully looking at the camera while I threaten our writhing 3 year old. That bit of blue on the ground would be her.

Didn’t even wait for me to come out from behind the tripod for this one. Though I do like her face in this one. That’s why it got a little extra Photoshop love.

Then we got punchy and decided to roll with it. This was almost the holiday card photo.

So we didn’t get the perfect family photo, but Savannah did stand still in the perfect light, right at sunset, long enough for me to grab this and it’s now a 20×30 over our fireplace. :)

Julie & Todd: Engaged

Todd & Julie!!

These two spend a good deal of time on their boat out on Lake Travis, so why NOT shoot heir portraits there? It looks warm and sunny in these images, but it was one of those Texas days where a cold front blows in and the temperature drops about 30 degrees in an hour. What troopers!! They are getting married in Salado in January and although I won’t be there, I know it’s going to be a wonderful celebration of their love for each other.

I loved hanging out with you guys! Thanks for the ride!

This feels very 1960′s Italian film, no?

This was a grab shot on our way back and I love love love it.

Shannon Cunningham Photography truism #6: ‘If there is a meadow and it’s sunset, I’m going to make you sit in the meadow – trust me’.

Savannah is three – the aftermath

Here are a few more snaps from the party. I promise I’ll have some actual work to post soon. You know how the holidays get……

We had cupcakes and cake from PolkaDots. I cannot say enough good things about them. Beautiful and delicious plus great to work with. They also do wedding cupcakes and cakes, FYI.

Our adorable guests

Uncle Damian

The Ga-Ga’s (that’s S’s word for Grandparents)

The Belle of the Ball

The whole family!!!! I think this might be the Holiday card photo.

Winner!

It’s fun to win – I’m not going to lie to you. I am crazy competitive.

So imagine my thrill when I placed in the latest WPJA contest. Woo! I placed in the ‘Groom Getting Ready’ Category.

This is one of my favorite images of the year. Here is what the Judges had to say:

“JUDGES COMMENTS: This image is all about the subtle body language of the central figure, which is elegant, expressive and unencumbered by the presence of the photographer. As your eyes move through the photograph, you become aware that everyone in the frame is in a state of relaxed preparation, a delightful moment that we are allowed to share.”

To go see all the rest of the amazing winning images, go HERE to the WPJA Home Page and enjoy.

Oh and I’m totally displaying this:
