Claire + Damian: Austin Engagement Photography

Special post today and I am writing it with a nervous stomach.

Photographically, there are few things that make me nervous. Shooting  family and other photographers top that list. Today’s entry is in the ‘Family’ category.

These two lovely people are my Brother-In-Law and future Sister-In Law! Whee!

Claire and Damian will be married this spring, and I get asked a lot “Are you shooting the wedding?” I am not. My wonderful and talented friend Stacy Cross will be, as I will be in my party dress and fancy shoes having fun. However, I couldn’t resist a fun morning taking Engagement photos of these two.  We met on a chillier than it looked morning and trekked around downtown and the UT campus.

I am so SO happy for them and can’t wait to celebrate later this spring. I love you guys.

Stephanie + Paul: Austin Engagement Photography

Wow, was it cold the morning we did this session. Like, crazy-most-Texans-would-not-be-caught-dead-outside cold. However, the lovely Stephanie and Paul had come in from Houston, so we made a fun winter session out of it!

Stephanie and Paul and are an awesome combo of smarts, silliness and smiles. Despite the frigid temps, I had a blast hanging out with them and then almost getting kicked out of a bookstore {more on that below}. People, let me remind you the power of the phrase ‘But this is their engagement session.’ It is usually followed by ‘OK, then do whatever you want.’ Hooray for love!

Thanks so much for being such superstars you guys! I can’t wait for the wedding.

Stephanie and Paul love books and hanging out at bookstores (as do I!) . In fact, when we were finished with the shoot, I left them at the store. They may still be there for all I know! Hope you guys had fun at my favorite Austin bookstore! Thanks again!

Leah + Daniel : Austin Wedding Photography

Before I get going on this post, let me tell you one of my resolutions. Never, ever, will I get so far behind on blogging again. Evah!

Daniel and Leah, where to begin? Daniel and Leah were referrals from some past clients of mine (the always delightful Erica and Josh) and knowing their group of friends as I do, I could not wait for this wedding. I knew fun was in store and I was not wrong. As you will see, personal, thoughtful  details and an incredibly honest and emotional ceremony were also dialed up. It could not have been a better night. I am so thrilled for these two. As I heard many times during the night, this was a long time coming and everyone was over the moon for the wedding.

The day was wonderfully coordinated by Gina and Jayme from Clink Events. All details were taken care of and the day flowed beautifully. Other vendor information is at the bottom.

Thanks you so much you two. I was honored to be a part of your day. I thank you for your friendship and fun this last year.  Keep enjoying your beautiful life together.

These shoes get their own collage.

First look! Huzzah!

As with much of their day, Daniel and Leah chose to personalize their ceremony. They walked in from either side of the ceremony site flanked by their parents. It was a wonderful visual to symbolize two families coming together.

Cutest table cards ever. Each table name was a pair, like PB&J or milk and cookies. On the flip side was an adorable illustration.

Apples? Oh yes. It was the return of ‘The Ocho’ and apple roulette. For the full story, head on over to Erica and Josh’s blog post.

There is just something about this photo that I really like.

See?  Super fun friends + good dancing music = dancy fun!

Note Leah’s second dress. CUTE!

As a surprise to Daniel (and the guests), Leah arranged for a New Orleans style jazz band to lead them out. I love how they squeezed every last drop of fun out of this night.

Venue – Laguna Gloria

Coordination – Gina and Jayme with Clink Events

Second Shooter – Matt Johnson (Thanks Matt!)

Floral – Prive

Catering – Crave

Shoes – Louboutin

Dessert Bar - Tiff’s Treats and Amy’s Ice Cream

Elizabeth + Martin: Austin Engagement Photography

I cannot, repeat, CANNOT believe I have not blogged this lovely couple yet. I love Elizabeth and Martin and am SO thrilled to be a part of their wedding.

We met downtown on a gorgeous fall afternoon and shot all around downtown Austin. I love it when a couple will just wander around with me. We also had such a nice time chatting and getting to know each other better. These two are lovely with each other. They seem really in tune in a finish the other’s sentence kind of way. I loved being around it. I also loved Elizabeth’s giggle attacks after I would set her in a pose. We have some really cute outtakes.

Great afternoon and I am so looking forward to their Wildflower Center wedding.

Fun Resources!

I know that a slew of you lovely people just got engaged over the holiday season and for that I say ‘HOORAY!!!”.  Even with the ever growing number of weddings I have been involved with, I always get a little flutter when I hear an engagement story or see a sparkly new ring. The Engagement is such a fun time and it goes by so quickly.

I thought I’d put together a few links for you that I find inspiring and/or fun.  I LOVE looking at wedding blogs, seeing what the trends are and ooh and aah-ing over all the pretty details. There are a thousand ways to ruin your productivity at work between now and your wedding – here are some of my favorites.

  1. Style Me Pretty
  2. The Wedding Chicks
  3. Snippet and Ink
  4. Southern Weddings
  5. Ruffled Blog

Local Love:  These blogs are all run by People/Companies in Austin. I love that the coordinator blogs I have listed not only show gorgeous real weddings they’ve worked on, but also include tips and tricks. These ladies KNOW stuff.

Chalene + Ethan Austin Wedding Photography

There are some people that awe you with the power of their love for each other. I realize that sounds a little cheesy, but it really is the only way I can describe the wonderful Chalene and Ethan. From the moment I met them, I knew I HAD to photograph their wedding. The way they got animated when they talked about the wedding details and most importantly, the way they acted with each other completely sold me on ‘The Chalene and Ethan Experience’.

The ceremony and reception were held at Chalene’s family home and it could not have been more perfect. The wedding was infused with Old Hollywood Glamour and it was classic and modern all at the same time. The wedding was expertly coordinated by Bethany Childress and her team at 36th Street Events. They did an amazing job. Other vendor information is below.

What a wonderful day. Thank you SO much you two for trusting me with your wedding memories. I smiled the whole day {but not as much as you two}.

The Hollywood Glamour wedding is all about the bling in a restrained way. Loved the bouquet brooch and the rhinestones on the cake cutter.

One of my favorite first looks ever.

I should mention those were real bow ties on the gents. Go big or go home.

The cocktail hour food was to die.

I love a grand exit, but Chalene and Ethan did something so beautiful in its simplicity. They said goodnight, hugged everyone and left. Quiet and wonderful.

Venue: Private Residence

Coordination: 36th Street Events

Second Shooter: Tali Wildman

Bridal and Bridesmaids Dresses: Unbridaled

Catering: Crave

Cake: Simon Lee Bakery

Jackson One Year Portraits: Austin Children’s Photographer

Oh Jackson, how you have grown.

Have I told you all lately  how much I love following babies throughout their first year of life? It is such an amazing transformation in 12 short months. They go from little (adorable) lumps to full blown people. You get to see first time parents go from nervous and completely sleep deprived to total pros at the parenting thing (and probably still a little sleep deprived).

We had to reschedule this session three times due to weather and sick kids, but we made it happen on a chilly December morning down at the Capitol Building and Jackson brought his big personality with him.

I get to see Jackson next year too because he is going to be a big brother. I can’t wait to see him as he takes on his new role and I can’t wait to meet the newest addition!

Thanks so much for the past year Jen, Randy and Jackson!

Shannon Cunningham is an Austin Wedding and Portrait Photographer.
