Liz and Tim were married at a very personal and heartfelt ceremony at First United Methodist Church of Austin followed by an elegant yet rollicking reception at The Driskill Hotel. Liz’s amazing beaded gown and the men’s black tie tuxes fit right in at The Driskill. Even with the large wedding, everyone had fun and seemed to be a good friend or family member. The dance floor was consistently packed. I love it when I see a couple actually enjoying their reception.

Thanks so much for everything Liz and Tim! I wish you all the happiness in the world!

New Year (ish) and I’m back to blogging! Kristen and Brad’s ceremony and reception was one of my favorites from last year. They are honestly two of the sweetest people you will ever meet and their entire wedding was built around family and sentiment and love, which is how it should be right? They had a ceremony at the Smith Family Chapel in Austin and then headed up to Kristen’s parent’s home in Round Rock for an elegant and fun backyard reception with amazing dancing, ice cream sandwiches, a cigar bar, cracker jack, sparklers and a sweet vintage getaway car.

So much love to both of you!

Darling Aggies studying to be Veterinarians? Sign me up! I met Kelsey and Carlos for their engagement photos on a threatening (weather-wise) day in south Austin. I knew I was in for a fun session when these two were completely unfazed by the drizzly weather that greeted us. In addition, they are some of my early morning troopers.

As we walked around and took photos, we were eventually greeted by the most amazing few minutes of sunshine. Like EPIC sunshine. As I recall, the rest of the day was completely dreary, so I like to think that Kelsey and Carlos’s sweet personalities and up for anything spirit is what brought the sun out.

Can’t wait to see you both in just a few months at Vista West Ranch!!!

Detail of the Week | Redux

Last year around this time, I was able to photograph the Driskill tree lighting and party. It was beautiful and festive and cozy. I love the Driskill for weddings, events, bridals – anything! It was planned and designed by the creative geniuses over at BZ Events and featured a beautiful champagne cocktail with a sparkly swizzle stick.

A few weeks ago, I noticed a lot of traffic from Pinterest to that photo and I felt badly that we didn’t have a recipe to go along with the photo. So I hit up the BZ people and voila! Just in time for the holidays, a festive cocktail recipe for you. It’s easy and gorgeous!

BZ’s Cranberry Sparkler

1-ounce sweetened cranberry juice

1 wedge lime

Champagne or Prosecco (yum!)

Cranberries (frozen)

A sparkly stir stick

Directions

In a chilled Champagne flute add cranberry juice and a squeeze of lime. Top off the glass with some yummy bubbly. Garnish with 3 cranberries and a sparkly stir stick.

Oh I love Instagram! Do you? There is a huge amount of freedom that I feel when I lift my little smart phone and just snap with no settings or focus adjustments to make. I am also a huge fan of the square picture. I have an old vintage camera that shoots square negatives and it’s always been a pleasing shape to me.

I often talk about relationship driven photography. My Instagram feed is definitely a little slice of my life and by following it, you can learn all sorts of silly and not so silly things about me. I’ll occasionally post something pretty from a wedding, but mostly it’s whatever catches my eye.

Be prepared, my feed is not art, but it is pretty fun.

Austin Family Photographer | Photo Frolic

“Do you photograph families?”

I get asked this a lot and the answer is YES! I love to, but you won’t see those photos here because a few years ago I decided to separate family portraiture from this website. I started a site called Photo Frolic, Modern Family Portraiture. I feel like family portraiture is a bit different from wedding photography, so I wanted to be able to give portrait clients a unique experience. It is not something I have really pushed, as you all are lovely clients that have allowed me to be your photographer for life, not just your wedding and then you have told your friends, which is the best form of advertising I could ever ask for.

This upcoming year, while I’ll still be shooting plenty of weddings, I’ll be looking to grow Photo Frolic. Shannon Cunningham Photography will still be all about weddings, but pop over to Photo Frolic now and again for some of Austin’s cutest newborns, babies and families.

Austin Wedding Photographer | Blair and Phil at the UT Golf Club

Today we have Blair and Phil on the blog! These two work together in their own social media company. If that doesn’t tell you that they like being around each other, I don’t know what does. Each time we met or talked, I was always struck with how hard they work – it was very impressive and I wish their company nothing but future success. I also noticed how they were each other’s puzzle pieces. They have this natural ease with each other. They were married on the law at the UT Golf Course on a gorgeous day. Check out that cloud picture – just an incredible picturesque sky that day.

The theme that kept coming up during the ceremony and reception was how right for each other they were and how each had entered the other’s life at the perfect time. It was mentioned over and over again and I loved it – so sweet! There were other sentimental touches as well including Blair’s dad playing the guitar at the ceremony and then singing and playing for Blair and Phil’s first dance. They were married by a family friend (look at his face during the ceremony). It was just a lovely, love and family filled day.

Congrats again Blair and Phil – I hope your new life together is going wonderfully!

Austin Wedding Photographer | Kelli and Noah at Wild Onion Ranch

To be filed under “What took you so long Cunningham?”, we have Nelli Day up on the blog today. You have seen them on Style Me Pretty but now it’s my turn to show you their wedding day. It was held at the lovely Wild Onion Ranch in Austin and was filled with beautiful décor, food and fun.

Some couples (and to be honest, most of the couples I have the privilege to photograph) really embrace their vendors and make us feel less like hired help and more like a cherished guest. Kelli and Noah and their families were the epitome of this philosophy. Since we had spent so much time together during their engagement, I really felt like I knew them and I am proud to say I saw two friends get married that Saturday.

This wedding has many of my favorite wedding touches, sparkly shoes, a first look, TWO dresses, lemonade, genuine chemistry and love, vintage pews at the ceremony, awesome dancing, sparkler exit, a vintage car, and a Hora!

Congratulations AGAIN you two. I love and adore you (and your familes)!
