Happy Birthday to Savannah

Yesterday was my daughter’s 7th (!!!) birthday. She is my favorite photo subject and biggest inspiration.

We love you little pumpkin and can’t believe how quickly you have gone from this:

As you grow you just become more and more awesome. We can’t wait to see what 7 has in store for us!

Detail of the Week | Instagram hashtags for weddings

OH YES! I love Instagram (and will have a post on it next week). I’m ‘SCPHOTO’ if you want to follow me (and I would love that because you’ll get a really great glimpse into my life and what makes me tick).

Just click on the icon to find me. But more about that later…

I think an Instagram hashtag is the PERFECT thing to incorporate into your wedding because who doesn’t have a smart phone at this point? Trust me, these people will be taking photos at your wedding and how FUN is it to see those photos immediately after the wedding? It is FUN, trust me. Plus, my assistant and I are all over the place, but can’t be everywhere at all times. Your guests can get some great behind the scenes perspective photos for you.

Jill and Matt (who you will be seeing more of later this month) had this delightful little sign at their Camp Lucy wedding and got to see lots of fun photos of their wedding immediately. I also participated (and totally will at your wedding too if you do this). Check out their hashtag and see the GIANT tarantula that crashed cocktail hour.

EEEE! Oh hill country, never change.

Austin Engagement Photographer | Grace and Jim

OOOHHHHH! As with many of my 2012 sessions I can’t believe I haven’t shown you this one yet!

Grace and I chatted about the engagement session and batted about a few ideas and then she said “You know, we have a ranch west of Houston, would you be interested in shooting there?”

“Sure!” I said, as I will always say when a client makes a suggestion for a location I haven’t shot before and is important to them.

So one Sunday I trekked off to west of Houston, not really knowing what to expect. OK, you guys? This ranch? SO beautiful! Like 500 acres of beautiful. Add in Grace and Jim and their doggie Shiner and it was a magical afternoon. We saw barns and saw ducks and heard red-tail bucks bleating (is that right? Is that what they do?) and coyotes running away from us. AMAZING! Plus Grace and Jim and I blabbed away like long lost friends. THEN they had a chalk dust fight at the end of the session! What?! YES! They did and it was awesome and I love them.

I think you’ll agree when you see the photos.

THANK YOU Grace and Jim (and Shiner) for a wonderful afternoon. I can’t wait to see you at Kali Kate in the Spring! Oh and also, these two have planned a really unique location at Kali Kate for their ceremony. I can’t wait! It’s going to be so different from most Kali Kate weddings!

My Thanksgiving Table

I am a little proud of my Thanksgiving table this year. I actually put some effort into the design instead of just slapping some plates on the table after I finish cooking.

You should know that I LOVE THANKSGIVING! It is the one holiday that is SO easy to enjoy. Food, friends, family and football? What’s not to like?

I asked my wonderful friend Wendee over at Unexpected Elements to make me a centerpiece. I told her to do whatever she wanted and look how pretty it turned out! She’s so creative!

The ‘placemats’, which are actually paper, are from West Elm, the salt and pepper shakers (the piggies) are from Jonathan Adler and I made the napkins and table runner myself. The china is Wedgwood and is unfortunately discontinued. Little S, my kiddo made the menu graphic and the cute acorn place cards.

It’s not complete professional quality, but I was very pleased as it incorporated elements from all parts of our lives, including our little person.

I have been around enough beautiful weddings and great wedding coordinators to pick up a thing or two. Thanks for the lessons planners!

Happy Wednesday!

Catch Me Not Blogging | The Rules and Regs

Austin Wedding Photographer Contest

OK! As mentioned on the Facebook page, I have a ridiculous backlog of events and portrait shoots to show you. It’s borderline embarrassing. Plus, there have been some fun things going on in my life that I’d like to share as well.

So as a motivator to myself AND some holiday fun for you, I’m bringing back ‘Catch Me Not Blogging’ for the rest of December!!

Here are the rules (they are a little different than last time):

I will be putting up a blog post each weekday (That is Monday through Friday) for the remainder of December. If there is no new blog post by 5:00PM {CST} then leave a comment notifying me of my oversight. You have until midnight that night to leave a comment.

I will then assign your comments a number in the order they are written, put them in the random number generator and the winner will receive a $250 credit that may be used towards: A photo session, prints, canvases, albums, digital files, other photo related products (as outlined on my price sheet). New and current clients are eligible. I can travel for a session, but you will be responsible for all travel costs outside of the Austin area. The prize cannot be redeemed for cash, used towards past purchases or to discount wedding photography services.

Make sense? Great.

Let’s get started!! Happy December everyone!

Austin Weddding Photographer | Hi!

Oh hi there!

I have not forgotten all of you wonderful people, but this time of year is a beehive of activity for photographers. I feel like I hear buzzing in my head several hours out of the day (and often into the night when I think of things I didn’t finish).

In addition to all this, I have some exciting news! I have new office space! Here are some ultra before pics. I’m still shopping and organizing, but will have some photos of the final design soon!

Austin wedding photographer Shannon Cunningham

For those of you that had been to my old space, this one is very different, but in a cozy, homey, wonderful, wood floor way! I’ll be using it for meetings and ordering sessions and hopefully, if you guys are game, some preview slideshow nights! As always, treats and wine and fizzy water will be on hand at all times.

Thanks for all of your support. I can’t wait to ring in 2013 with all of you! It’s going to be an amazing year.
