Kelly & Robert | Austin Wedding Photographer

Again – Happy New Year to you all!

Today is day one of the catch up posts and it’s a great wedding at The Austin Club in downtown Austin with Kelly and Robert! This was my first time shooting at The Austin Club and I loved the old style urban club feel this location has. It’s also in a great spot downtown with lots of cool options for photos.

Kelly and Robert are from Dallas and I had met them in person just the evening prior at their rehearsal dinner. (On a side note, I love shooting rehearsal dinners!) They are a smart, sophisticated couple and I knew their wedding would be a great mix of classic touches and fun.

The lovely and talented Lorena Molina coordinated the day and my pal Scott Stater was there to second shoot.

It was great getting to know you two and I am so happy for you!! Best of everything.

So let’s talk about lighting really quickly. It. Transforms. A. Space. Seriously. If there is room is the budget – I cannot recommend it enough.

Women’s Federation Mansion Wedding | Kristin + Nik

This was a fun one.

When I was sorting through the photos from this wedding, the thing that jumped out at me was the sheer joy and delight that both Kristin and Nik had on their faces the entire day. Pretty much all brides and grooms are happy, but there was a radiance about these two that had me smiling fondly behind my lens all day.

The ceremony took place at Redeemer Lutheran Church followed by a purple inspired reception at the Women’s Federation Mansion. Dancing, thoughtful toasts, candy and late night donuts filled the late night hours.

Kristin and Nik are currently in Maui for their honeymoon so they left to a shower of leis, which made for amazing photos and lots of laughing.

Big thanks to Tali as usual for second shooting and also to Barbara Hearne and her team at Barbara’s Brides for keeping the day flowing beautifully.

Thank you Kristin and Nik for allowing me to be a part of your lives these past months. I have loved getting to know you both and wish you so much happiness.

Also, I am starting something new. When I sort through the photos to choose the blog images, I tend to choose waaaay too many to fit in a blog post. Emerge Contest: Austin Wedding Photographer

A few months ago, I entered a super fun contest called ‘Emerge’. It’s different than ones I’ve entered in the past as you were required to enter 10 images from the same wedding in each category rather than a single image. The point was to craft a story with your entry.

I found that intriguing because that’s what I strive for when I’m shooting a wedding. I’m certainly not a strict photojournalist – I love fun portraits and amazing shoe shots and cool ring photos. However, preserving the story of one of the most important days in a couple’s life is something that is very dear to me.

So anyway, long story short, I won ‘Honorable Mention’ in the ‘Venue’ category. I didn’t take the Grand Prize, but I’ll take 4th. I’m pretty proud of fourth.

I chose Amanda and Timur’s purple Laguna Gloria Wedding as my entry for this category. This was a gorgeous wedding made so beautiful with Amanda’s vision and the awesome planning and execution of a great team of vendors including Prive Floral and Becky Brock with BZ Events. Plus, Laguna Gloria was a natural choice for a ‘venue’ category’.

Amanda + Timur: Austin Wedding Photographer

Oh this is a pretty one!

Amanda and Timur were married on a beautiful September day at Laguna Gloria. I know that an incredible amount of thought and care went into this wedding. At our first meeting, Amanda giddily pulled our her fabric swatches and couldn’t wait to tell me about her vision for her wedding day. All of the details incorporated the couple’s personal style, from the teapot centerpieces to ‘Tuksan’ Chili favors – a nod to the blending of two cultures. This wedding was a visual and emotional feast.

The wedding had a great team of vendors, coordinated beautifully by Becky Brock and Lorena Molina. A big thanks to Scott Stater, who second shot this wedding with me.
